A forecast gives you one chance; the complement is what's left of 100%. "70% chance of rain" means a 30% chance it stays dry — because 100% − 70% = 30%.
Sometimes you're handed the complement and asked for the event. Same rule, run in reverse: P(A) = 1 − P(not A).
